The Long Road Back to the Heart

Addictions – a shortcut to relief, but a long journey back to the heart…
Addiction often begins with a simple desire:
“Let me feel a little better for a moment.”
But over time, the feeling you first tried to avoid becomes blocked, while at the same time a higher and higher wall is built around the heart…
Psychologically
According to the self-medication hypothesis (Edward Khantzian), addiction is an attempt to regulate emotions that feel too overwhelming, too empty, or unbearable.
The brain learns a shortcut:
“When I feel anxiety / loneliness / worthlessness, this drink / social media / work / drama gives me quick relief.”
Over time, the body begins to rely on that shortcut simply to cope with difficult emotions. Then shame appears, which creates even more escape — and once again we reach for the same shortcut.
From a spiritual perspective
Your soul is on a journey from self-abandonment to self-love.
Addictive patterns reveal very clearly what LOVE IS NOT: the ways the body’s messages are ignored, the way we speak to ourselves, the ways we abandon ourselves.
Your soul uses these repeated cycles to show you again and again:
“This does not truly nourish me.”
Every time you wake up after overindulgence, a hangover, endless scrolling, or another drama cycle, you touch a deeper truth:
“This is not how I truly want to love myself.”
In everyday life, it may sound like this:
“I just need to be on my phone for a moment to relax,”
and without noticing, two hours have passed — you feel emptier than before, perhaps more overstimulated and irritated.
“I only drink on stressful days,” until almost every day begins to qualify as “stressful”…
ASK YOURSELF:
Is this real pleasure, and does it bring me closer to my heart — or further away from myself?
You may continue choosing what feels “comfortable,” but the moment you honestly admit to yourself what you are truly trying to soothe, healing has already begun.
Your addictions do not define your worth — what defines you is your willingness to keep returning to your heart, choosing yourself again and again, even when the journey takes time…
🧡 Let your habits soften little by little, so your heart can gently begin to open again 🧡

Bioenergeetik – Holistilise integratsiooni terapeut
